  2. Gaara nastily told Naruto that he would just 'play' with him -- he wanted to see Naruto give up on his ideals and run. It was a battle of their conflicting ideals--their ways of thinking, stemmed from a nearly identical source, yet going in completely different directions. As Naruto got beat around by Gaara's attacks, rage started building up in him--he knew that if anything, he didn't want to lose to Gaara's mentality.Gaara nastily told Naruto that he would just 'play' with him -- he wanted to see Naruto give up on his ideals and run. 3. With Gama Bunta at his side, Naruto managed to give Shukaku Gaara a good fight. Gaara grew desperate at this time, and allowed the Shukaku to take over for him. Gama Bunta and Shukaku exchanged a couple of explosive attacks before Gama Bunta said that even he couldn't take too many hits of that caliber. He told Naruto that they would do a combo Henge--he would provide the chakra, and Naruto would provide the hand seals and form. Together, they transformed temporarily into the Kyuubi.

Naruto and Gama Bunta were able to disrupt Gaara's sleep jutsu with the Kyuubi's form. However, Gaara still had quite a bit of strength, and he attempted to crush Naruto with sand again. Though Gama Bunta protected Naruto the first time with his tongue, Gaara came underneath and trapped Naruto by the legs. A quick glance at Sakura told Naruto that he could not give up no matter what, and he called upon the Kyuubi for strength. Naruto wrested free of the sand, and in one quick motion, headbutted Gaara. With this, Gaara's Shukaku form was shattered, and both of them fell to the trees below. The exhausted Gama Bunta disappeared, leaving only his dagger.

Naruto declared that he was at his limit, but he would put an end to it, they who "were the same". As the dagger disappeared in a cloud of smoke, the two jumped at each other at the same time, this time using no fancy jutsus or moves--just a simple punch.

However, in their current states, a simple punch was all that was needed to completely exhaust them. Even though he wasn't able to get up, much less move his limbs, Naruto dragged himself over to Gaara. Naruto wanted to make sure Gaara was defeated, so his friends were safe; he explained, this is why he still had the strength to move, when both of them were utterly drained. He felt Gaara's pain, he knew what Gaara had gone through, but his friends had saved him from that pain, and just because of that, he would do anything to protect them. It was then that Gaara finally realized the secret behind his opponent's strength -- Naruto's friends were what made him strong.
